On January 17th 2016, in our beautiful ski resort of Villars-sur-Ollon, large, soft snowflakes fell, joyfully welcoming all the World Snow Day participants.

The Swiss Ski School of Villars, in partnership with Villars Tourism, Télé-Villars-Gryon (the ski lift company), and 4 different sport shops of Villars(Däetwyler Sport, Happy Ski, Holiday Sport and Mc Board) were proud to participate in the World Snow Day 2016.

At 8AM, the Swiss Ski School employees, together with the Villars Tourism employees, greeted nearly 100 participants with fruit juice, hot coffee and brioches.
The participants had been divided previously into groups by the Swiss Ski School secretaries. A little more than half the guests had decided to try skiing for the first time, while the rest decided snowboarding was better for them as a first experience.

Each group received a detailed itinerary of the day’s activities & hours, a map of the Villars ski area & runs, the name of the sports store that each individual group would hire from, and the free ski passes for the day. Here in Villars, children under 9 ski for free all season long!

After a quick breakfast, all the partakers left to their assigned sports store to hire their ski or snowboard equipment. As soon as they were ready, they took the rack railway up to Bretaye (the main plateau of the ski area of Villars).

After a breathtakingly scenic 20 minute ride, surrounded by the famous Swiss Alps, everyone arrived at destination.

There to welcome them were 7 ski instructors and 4 snowboard instructors, along with the directors of the Swiss Ski School of Villars, Marc-Henry Duc & Patrick André, and the organizers of the World Snow Day, Andrew Cholinski & Jeff Aylen. The International Ski Federation (FIS) had also provided fun goodie-bags for the guests; souvenirs of an incredible day.

Everyone was excited & very eager to get started, so the instructors wasted no time and started their free 2-hour lessons.

The vibes on the slopes of Villars during this 5th World Snow Day were vibrant & loud. Fun & laughter filled the resort as these soon-to-be skiers and snowboarders learned how to slide for the very first time. Both instructor & student were having a blast, with smiles from ear to ear. The day couldn’t have been more perfect & we’re positive this won’t be the last time we see these guests on the slopes!
