India World Snow Day a success

31. January 2020
World Snow Day 2020 saw events take place in 45 countries around the world. Amongst this group was India.

India has participated in World Snow Day since its beginnings in 2012. Till now many Organisers worked independently to host host events. However in 2020, Organisers unified efforts and consolidated actions to host the best World Snow Day actions to date.

In total 3 locations staged World Snow Day, they were Gulmarg, Manali and Nalhota. In the Gulmarg area the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering provided free lessons and equipment to local children. In Manali the Himachal Pradesh Winter Games Association also provided free equipment rental and lessons but also added free lift passes for participants. Finally, the tourism organization Seeking Himalayas, staged their action over two days. The event battled tough weather but thanks to good planning was able to execute a back event that included safety demonstrations and an introduction to mountaineering, a popular activity in the western Himalayas.

The combined effort of these actions resulted in good media attention. So much so that one of India's most prominent new organisations, The Times of India, featured the Manali activites in their regular news circulation. Check out the article below and below and keep an eye out on their 2021 activities
