World Snow Day 2019 event was organised by Seeking Himalayas in Badagran village in Himachal Pradesh, India, on 20 January 2019.

This was our 5th continuous event; and the 1st one ever organized in this village.

Considering that this was the first time, that such an event was organised in this remote village in the lap of the Dhauladhar Range, the participant turnout of was surprisingly impressive!

We had 58 participants, with the youngest being 2 years old and the eldest - 69 years! (The event and infectious enthusiasm of kids drew some curious grown ups as well )

Following activities were undertaken:

- Snow-tubing
- Different techniques of ascending and descending in varied snow conditions, were demonstrated to the kids, like - Duck Steps, Side stepping, Plunging
- Use of Snow Gaiters and Micro-spikes was demonstrated and practised
- And everyone enjoyed free snacks to heart's content in the winter chill

Environment awareness:
Environment Awareness is a routine component of our all WSD events; this time we had an informal discussion with kids about the importance and need of Waste Segregation.

Last moment changes:
- All sloped terrains in the area had either too less snow, and those with enough snow had either too steep gradient or were not easily approachable.
Hence, as a safety consideration, instead of free sliding, the snow-tubes were towed instead, on a relatively flat surface.

- Snow art component was started but we decided not to proceed with it, as the snow turned out to be one with a high moisture content and could not be shaped properly.

Conclusion:
It was an eye opening first exposure to snow sports for kids (and some elders) of nearby villages. Their overwhelming response and participation was a delightful surprise and we look forward to more such events here in future.
