When the Estonian Health Tracks Organisation jumped on the organizers list on the last minute in december of 2011, we hoped to bring Snow Day to about 25 locations. At the end, small snowdays were held in 35 different locations (Health Tracks) across Estonia on 22nd of January. Approximately 7000 participants took part in Snow Day activities and about 25000 people in total enjoyed snow on 22nd of January in Estonia.
The activities varied in Snow Day locations, our main aim was to focus on children, but a big number of adults also got their hands snowy. There were sledging, skiing, hunting for photos, different relay competitions and snowman makings. Feedback from the participants was absolutely positive and many asked for the next event.
Most of the Health Tracks in Estonia offered free tea and sweets during Snow Day activities, some places had lotteries with interesting prizes and some organized longer skiing hikes.
Also on 21st and 22nd of January thousands of skiing-fans gathered in Otepää, Estonia where international FIS Cross Country World Cup was held. The feedback from Snow Day participants across Estonia on 22nd was that the TV-broadcast from Otepää turned out to be secondary, outdoor activities were more popular.
Everything was coordinated through Estonian Health Tracks Organisation, we used our webpage www.terviserajad.ee and Facebook to share information and also conducted some FB games with prizes for participants.
We would like to thank International Ski Federation! Thank you for giving us an unforgettable chance to explore, enjoy and experience the snow in Estonia!
