We celebrated World Snow Day with a snowstorm!! But the skies cleared around 330 pm and everyone had fun. The Omineca Ski Club hosted lots of activities with the emphasis put on playing in the snow. We used the toolkit given to us to create a slalom course (on cross country skis), an obstacle course and a snow soccer field. We used the tent for a check-in spot and then a drink station. We had a fun biathlon event with target shooting using marshmallow guns. On Saturday,a group of 20 people skied up to Spud Tower (a cell tower) which is a climb of about 12 km from our club lodge (a 600 m climb in elevation). They spent the night in tents (at -5C but with a fierce wind blowing and snow all night), shot off fireworks, cooked on a campfire and ate 'somemores'. They returned in the morning to a hot pancake breakfast. On Sunday, a group of 11 skiers also climbed up to Spud Tower in total fog and snow - it was supposed to be a trip to experience the amazing view of the Burns Lake area but instead it was all white!! The majority of these skiers were all over 60 years of age.
We all had fun, ate lots of chili and hot dogs and thanks to the generosity of FIS had a really fun day!!
