Report

The World Snow Day at Sierra Nevada has been a big success. Each year,100.000 children from 0 to 14 years old come to Sierra Nevada for the winter season. And it’s our pleasure to celebrate the World snow day in conjunction with the International Ski Federation and all of the ski resorts in the world.
Sierra Nevada winter ski resort, in collaboration with the business associations, clubs, ski schools and sponsors, designed a special program of activities during the weekend of January 21st and 22nd 2012 for World Snow Day.

It was a wonderful weekend also due to the good weather and 90 kilometers of skiable slope.
The activities planned for the children were high quality and funny.
This year had a special importance because the World Snow Day events coincided with the María José Rienda alpine skiing Trophy competition, and the exhibitions of Snowboard and Freestyle in our “ Burton Progression Park”.
The weekend was a success for ski resort. We had 12.731 skiers on Saturday the 21st, and 10.903 skiers on Sunday the 22nd. During the weekend, approximately 3.500 people could enjoy the plethora of activities, with even the smallest children.
On Saturday, Sierra Nevada opened the World Snow Day with the María José Rienda Trophy, a Competition for children (Giant Cup of Andalusia) in the “Prado de las Monjas” slope. There were ongoing activities, workshops, and games for kids in both Andalucía and Pradollano square.
On the same day, the children from the clubs of Sierra Nevada, along with the FADI (Andalusia Ski Federation) and the Technical Center of Winter Sports (CETDI) led and evening ski down the lit “El Rio” slope. At the end of this activity, a raffle was held for the participants of the workshops. The day concluded with a concert by Sierra Nevada rock group, Snowcoverband.
On Sunday, the day started with “healthy Meet-up”, a flash mob that included actions related to safe skiing practices. (Breakfast and warm-up before a day of skiing).
At the same time, there were others ski activities for young children including: exhibitions and workshops for beginners of snowboarding in the recently debuted, “Burton Progression Park”, the special enclosure for the Freestyle beginners of “Loma de Dilar” area with lines for jumping and modules for introduction to the terrain park.
The activities were dispersed throughout the ski resort, including: Borreguiles, Montebajo, Super-Park Sulayr, Andalusia square and El Rio.
All the activities were free.
Raffles with prizes (hats, bags, helmets, glasses, ski-passes, ski-classes, shirts, etc) from all of the collaborators.
Free breakfast and snacks.
One of the highlighted activities was the “Healthy Meet-up”, which offered a good breakfast to everyone, and an opportunity to do a good warm-up before skiing to avoid injuries.
Discount prices were offered on lodging for these special days.
Discount for meals.
For the next year during World Snow day, many of our skiers will return because the festive environment and activities involved the whole of the ski-resort.
