Yellowknife NWT Canada has celebrated World Snow Day since January 2013 with a variety of events hosted by several organisations. The City of Yellowknife has helped promote the events. This year Mayor Rebecca Alty visited all the events and handed out City facility passes. Other activities this year included Fat Biking, snowboarding and snowmobiling. The weather was excellent and we can absolutely count on great snow conditions all winter in Yellowknife. Temperature was minus 16C and minimal wind. At the Yellowknife Ski Club we hosted an outdoor event under Covid-19 rules. There were no trail fees. The local outdoor store, Overlander Sports reduced their rental rates on skis and rented everything in the shop. We had numerous people try skiing for the first time or first time in a long time. Ski lessons and athlete programs were happening as usual and lots of skiers came out to ski. As with most other places interest in cross-country skiing is an all time high. Our membership is over 700 - a 50% increase from previous years. In addition to organised events, lots of people were outdoors enjoying the excellent winter weather and posting WSD photos on social media. We also held a draw for an early season Skigo Bingo. The Bingo cards listed all kinds of fun events. Top prize was a trip for two to a remote fly-in wilderness lodge called Blachford Lake Lodge. We enjoy snow days from October to May and we love celebrating World Snow Day in Yellowknife. Its a noted day in the City's visitors guide calendar.
