This year Ski Club Zagreb celebrates its 100th birthday, and on that occasion we registered as the organizer of FIS World Snow Day in Zagreb, and that is just the beginning of many more events the club is planning for its members and citizens of Zagreb, as well.
On January 21st , 2018, we spent the day hanging out on Sljeme and celebrating FIS World Snow Day. About 100 children participates in the event and tried skiing and snowboarding for the first time through our free ski and snowboard school. The school lasted for 2 hours. There were three groups, half an hour for each school with 10-minute break. After the ski school, little skiers were given the opportunity to try giant slalom racing. In the end, all the participants of our school were awarded with a gift bag, medal, diploma and balloons.
The fun continued in the afternoon. The kids were sledding, played various snow games, they sang the children's songs with choir “Bajka” and built a giant snowman. They were particularly excited about spray-painting the snow with various colours. The dogs from the Croatian Association of Rescue Dogs caused even more excitement among the kids as they demonstrated how does the dog training look like through various stages. The first puppy was just 10 months old and he demonstrates how does the training start at an early age. He was followed by two older dogs who showed us how the search in the narrow area looks. Finally, the last, most experienced dog showed us his skills in searching for missing persons when there is more ground to cover. This amazing day ended with taking a group picture and playing with the dogs.
