Report

Central World Snow Day event in Belarus was held on January 20, 2013 in Minsk city – capital of our Republic.

The event drew 5000 participants to the ski hills of Ski center ‘Sunny Valley’. Organizers of the event made everything to form interest to the Snow Day among public by making a massive PR action. It included advertizing with the help of TV, out-door advertizing, press, radio and social networks. Peculiarity of the fest in Minsk was active involvement of youth and children into the organizational process.

We created a Youth Commission attached to the Organizing Committee. Most of the Commission's members were youngsters of 14 to 17 years old, who not only generated ideas that were included into the event schedule, but also advertized the event with all the tools available. As an example members of the Commission created web-pages committed to the event in social networks, thus popularizing the values of healthy lifestyle in an easy to grasp format and inviting their friends to make a step forward on the way to active lifestyle.

Program of World Snow day, Minsk included:
Junior Ski competitions;
Entertaining show-program;
Funny contests and on-snow games;
Series of master-classes in ski sports for children.
Moreover kids not only helped in the organization of the events, but took most active part in the events as main actors. Most of artistic performances were given by children – members of vocal and dancing ensembles.
We had hundreds of young volunteers who also participated in the events. The Union encouraged such initiatives by granting free tickets and passes from ski hills and sports centers.
Free master-classes from young athletes were also very popular with the little participants of the World Snow Day.

Every young participant of the event got his little present from UNICEF out of the hands of Santa Claus and his fairy team. Free ski-passes granted by the Ski center ‘Sunny Valley’ were distributed as gifts and prizes too.
Apart from that Minsk had 7 events overall – each one of them in a separate administrative unit of the city – so that to make World Snow Day more accessible for everyone.
