In the week leading up to World Snow Day 2013, all of us involved with the event were busy doing our best "snow dance" to encourage Mother Nature to send us her best white stuff in order to make our planned ski and snowboard day for the children of Big Brothers Big Sisters a success. Perhaps we were a bit over zealous with our dancing as Mother Nature played a cruel and ironic joke on us in the early morning of January 20, 2013. She sent a severe snowstorm, complete with high winds, low temperatures and zero visibility on the surrounding highways which resulted in the school bus transportation for our participants being cancelled.

Being the hearty Canadians that we are, and with the agreement of World Snow Day organizers, we rescheduled for Sunday, March 3, 2013, and were rewarded with a fabulous day to hit the slopes!

For the second annual World Snow Day, World Snowsports Events Group again joined forces with Blue Mountain Resort, and with the generous financial assistance of the Ontario Trillium Foundation we were able to provide a free day of skiing and snowboarding to the children of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. We are very proud to say that we doubled our participants from last year. In cooperation with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Georgian Triangle, this year we were able to expand our reach and bring the "Bigs and Littles" from both Orillia and Hanover to join us. The reaction of participants was summed up this way:

Just wanted to say thanks one more time! Everyone had a great day and loved learning to ski. We were all blown away at the generosity you and your team had for us and how patient everyone at Blue Mountain was. Thanks again and we hope to participate in the future.

From all of us at BBBS Orillia,

Thanks again!

Everyone left with a smile on their face and a small gift in hand to help remember the day - our thanks to Sporting Life for their assistance.

We are all looking forward to World Snow Day 2014!!!
