We started preparing the events for the World Snow Day with the Ski Simulation Trials in Athens on the 15th of December 2013, which was organized by the Athens Ski Club.
36 children took part in the sports of Inline skating Slalom, Mountain Biking and Parallel slalom running.
The week from 13/01/2014 to 19/01/2014, 980 children visited Parnassos Ski Center for the World Snow Day 2014 and were offered free access to the lifts, as well.
The event was considered a huge success since, despite the (limited) lack of snow, there was an increase of visitors by about 500% since last year.
Free ski and snowboard lessons were given during the whole week from 13/01/2014 to 19/01/2014 by the instructors of the “Pappos Baldoumis Ski School”. In addition, the students of many primary schools from Athens were transported to the ski center.
Thanks to our communication sponsor “ IKON” and the press releases TV channels such as ANT1, ALPHA and STAR got interested in the festivities and as a consequence the events were broadcast on shows viewed by almost 600.000 people each.
Klaoudatos ski bus provided a free transport to all the volunteers.
Dr Spyros Papanikolaou took care of all the catering expenses.
Papadopoulos Food Company handed out sandwich biscuits.
Metlife Alico insured the children against any accidental injuries.
Mr Thanos Floros offered the film “The Edge”.
The ski center supplied us with the free ski passes, nets, personnel, snowcats, etc.
Worked for free:
22 volunteers from the association “Athens 2004 Volunteers”
20 “Good Samaritans”-Piraeus ((Red Cross Volunteers)
35 volunteers from E.O.S-Athens (The Ski Club of Athens)
20 ski and snowboard instructors from “Pappos Baldoumis Ski School”
1 professional photographer, Mrs T. Dimopoulos
A 3,5-meter-high snowman was built.
Parallel Giant Slalom races, a great number of games and sleigh races took place successfully during both days.
The film “The Edge” was shown in Arachova’s Conference Centre on 17&18/1/14.
During the week, 2000 packets of Papadopoulos sandwich biscuits and 1000 safety regulation handbooks were given to all the children attending the festivities.
The party that followed the events and the medal awards were certainly the highlights of the week.
It’s also worth mentioning that no injuries occurred.
The events were held both in “Kellaria” and “Fterolaka”.
Everyone cooperated with each other perfectly.
Lots of children, lots of games, lots of fun for both youngsters and adults!
The weather was ideal and the snow more than enough.
Overall we offered snow fun to 1016 children under the age of 15 years old.
THANK YOU EVERYONE SO MUCH FOR YOUR OFFER!!!
