Event Report
4th Allgäu-Outlet Schneeschuhtrail | 21 January 2012
150 Event Participants
The turnout of over 150 winter sport enthusiasts last Saturday at the 4th Annual allgäu-outlet Snowshoe Trail Event in Burgberg proved once again that, despite uncomfortable weather conditions, everyone can really have a lot of fun in the midst of nature.
In comparison to last year´s lack of snow and the cancellation of the event, this year was just the opposite. Within 2 days, we had more snow than we had ever expected and at “Mount Grünten” on Saturday morning that pure Alaska feeling was on hand.
Unfortunately the snowfall turned more and more into rainfall during the day, but the good time feeling with all of the participants prevailed further on. Many of the participants stood for the first time ever with their “Big Feet” and were quickly fastened with snowshoe fever.
Young and old, everyone had a great time in trying out one or more of the different fascinating categories of snowshoe walking. The categories ranged from the beginning or basic course, longer supervised snowshoe tours, family adventure station tours, dog sled rides to the snowshoe biathlon.
A not everyday challenge was performed by the participants of the snowshoe race. Due to the huge snowfall the night before, the race course was deliberately shortened. In spite of this and also due to the thick massive snow, the athletes performed overwhelmingly on the hard core 7km long course.
At the winners´ ceremony, the majority of sportsmen showed a cheek to cheek smile and the slogan of the day from the competitors chimed “This competition was very inspiring and inspires us more for yet to come!”
Although the weather conditions could have been better, the directors of the skiing club and the Nordic Activity Centre of Burgberg, proclaimed a very positive end result of this years´ event and are very optimistic that the 2013 Allgäu-Outlet Snowshoe Trail Event will be a real runner and magnet again for the many snowshoe fans who want to participate next year in Burgberg.
We would like to take this opportunity to warmly thank all the participants, helpers, the staff and our partners for a great job accomplished and for the wave of enthusiasm, support and good cheer given at the 4th Annual allgäu-outlet Snowshoe Trail.
